Connecticut has a lot of them. I see them when I’m driving around and I always think I should stop and take pictures. But there’s usually someone behind me, so that would involve finding a place to turn around, going back, and securing a safe place to park before I can even get out and take the photos. I tell myself I’ll remember where the barn is and come back another day. And then I never do it. But yesterday I was driving through Weston and I passed this barn – which I’ve passed before – and I decided I had to stop and take some photos.

Connecticut is full of old barns, symbols of the state’s agricultural heritage. From 2006 to 2020 an organization called Preservation Connecticut conducted a survey of historic barns in the state. Four hundred volunteers documented nearly 8,600 significant, historic barns throughout the state. After the survey was completed, Preservation Connecticut nominated 2,000 barns to the State Register of Historic Places. You can see the Connecticut barns here.
